***SPORTS MOVIEW REVIEWS** by John Graham 61* The HBO Movie about the Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris chase to best Babe Ruth. Unusual quality for a Made for cable movie. The casting is indeed very good.The facts are as close to the real thing as possible. It truly is sad and a joy to watch. So many fans hated Maris for trying to break the record while his chief rival Mantle was one of his best friends.They actually redesigned Tiger Stadium to look like Yankee Stadium did in 1961. It is apparant that Producer Billy Crystal is a huge Yankee fan. But he keeps the story from becoming a fan letter by showing the dark side to that season. The flow is very good and does not become boring at any point. This could easily have been a theatrical release.Well worth the time. If you dont have HBO have someone tape it for you...4.5 BASEBALLS OUT OF 5....
